Michael Hill International has confirmed the appointment of Jonathan Waecker as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective 27 August 2025. The announcement follows a global executive search initiated after the passing of former CEO Daniel Bracken earlier this year.
Waecker has held senior roles at The Walt Disney Company, Yahoo and The Warehouse Group, where he has served as Chief Customer and Sales Officer since 2017. His experience spans retail operations, digital strategy and organisational change.
Strategic Fit With Business Priorities
Rob Fyfe, Chair of the Michael Hill Board, said: “Following a rigorous global search process, the Board is delighted to appoint Jonathan to lead Michael Hill as we embark on our next chapter of transformation and growth. Jonathan’s global perspective, commercial acumen, digital experience and customer-centric leadership approach align strongly with the Company’s strategic priorities and market challenges.”
Waecker will relocate from Auckland to Brisbane to take up the CEO position.
In a statement, Waecker said: “I’m honoured to be joining the business at such a pivotal time and excited about the opportunity to help shape its next chapter. With strong brand equity, a passionate team, and a loyal customer base across Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, I believe Michael Hill has all the ingredients to thrive.”
Interim Leadership Update
Andrew Lowe, who has served as interim CEO since Bracken’s passing, will step down from the position and has announced his resignation from the company. He will remain during his six-month notice period in his previous role as Chief Financial and Supply Chain Officer to support the leadership transition.
Fyfe added: “The Board wishes to express its sincere thanks to Andrew for his contribution over the last eight years and for his stewardship of Michael Hill as interim CEO… His contribution has been invaluable in maintaining momentum and focus as we completed our global search.”
