Western Australian jeweller Linneys has formally transitioned ownership from founders Alan and Michelle Linney to their sons, Justin and Troy Linney, through a structured succession plan.
The move sees Linney Group Pty Ltd take over from Linneys Jewellery Pty Ltd, with the business remaining family-owned and WA-based.
The market-value transaction has been years in the making and guided by independent advisors. It includes the transfer of all operational responsibilities, staff entitlements and supplier relationships, with no immediate changes to employees, customers or day-to-day business operations.
“This is more than a change in ownership – it’s the continuation of a family legacy,” said Troy Linney.
Continued focus on local production and employment
Established in 1972, Linneys is known for its use of Argyle pink diamonds, Broome pearls and Australian precious metals. The company reports that 95% of its jewellery is designed and handcrafted in its Subiaco workshop.
Linneys currently employs over 40 people in WA, with more than 20% of staff having been with the company for over 15 years. According to the company, online sales have grown by more than 25% in the past year.
Pearls remain a strong category for the brand, particularly in neoprene bangles and rings, while demand for diamond rings is steady. Sales of coloured gemstone jewellery have also seen growth in recent years.
Subiaco showroom redevelopment
Alongside the ownership transition, Linneys has announced a redevelopment of its Subiaco headquarters and flagship showroom on Rokeby Road. The renovation includes a new pearl showroom, intended to showcase WA-sourced pearls and align with the company’s local design influences.
The refurbishment will use locally sourced materials and updated interiors, with the aim of improving both the showroom environment and facilities for staff.
“Our clients are investing in heirlooms that mark their life’s milestones, and we want their experience at Linneys to be memorable,” stated Justin Linney. “The new pearl showroom offers a personalised, immersive environment that reflects our coastal heritage and ensures Linneys remains a uniquely Western Australian destination. Our amazing team is excited to showcase the new space to our loyal customers.”
The updated premises will also include improvements to staff areas to support the working environment for the company’s team of over 40 craftspeople and staff.
Founders to remain in advisory roles
Alan and Michelle Linney will retain involvement in the business as founding advisors through the Linney Family Board, maintaining a direct link to the founding generation.
Linneys was inducted into the Family Business Association’s Hall of Fame in 2019 in recognition of its long-term succession planning. The completed ownership transition follows a long-term succession plan, consistent with practices seen in other family-owned retail businesses.
