In a significant development in the armed robbery case at Rhia Jewellers in Calamvale, a 20-year-old man, Cody Shannon Blake, has been charged.
The incident, which occurred on May 22, involved two balaclava-clad men who allegedly threatened the store owner and staff with firearms, leading to the theft of jewellery valued at approximately $200,000.
Details of the Heist
According to reports, the suspects, dressed in black and with their faces concealed, entered the family-owned store, Rhia Jewellers, around 5 pm. They allegedly brandished guns and demanded merchandise from the staff members present. The employees complied, and fortunately, no physical injuries were reported.
The robbery, captured on CCTV, showed the offenders wearing balaclavas, making identification difficult. The store, owned by Abdul Azam, experienced significant loss due to the heist.
Police Operation and Charges
Following the incident, detectives from the Acacia Ridge Criminal Investigation Branch launched an intensive investigation. On May 29, police executed a search warrant at a Flagstone address, leading to the discovery of the vehicle believed to be used in the getaway.
Cody Shannon Blake was arrested at the scene. He has been charged with armed robbery and multiple weapon and drug offences, reflecting the serious nature of the crime and the threat it posed to community safety.
Bail Denied, Investigations Continue
In light of the charges, Blake’s bail was denied. He is scheduled for an appearance in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court. As the legal proceedings commence, the police continue their investigations, indicating the possibility of further developments in the case.
