The Jewellery Industry Network will launch the Sarah Hue-Williams Library at The Centre in Leichhardt, Sydney, on 24 October 2025.

The collection, donated by Karen Lindley, is named in memory of Sarah Hue-Williams and is considered one of the largest jewellery-focused libraries in the Southern Hemisphere.

    Collection Background

The library honours the work of Sarah Hue-Williams, a long-time contributor to jewellery scholarship. It is being established as a permanent reference collection and will be managed by the Jewellery Industry Network for the benefit of the trade.

Laura Moore, managing director of the Jewellery Industry Network, said:

“We are very proud to hold this collection in Sarah’s memory. It represents not only a vast resource of knowledge, but also the passion, artistry and scholarship that underpin our craft.”

    Scope of the Collection

The library comprises several hundred titles covering a wide range of subjects relevant to jewellers, gemmologists and historians. Areas covered include:

    • Gemmology and synthetic stones
    • Ancient and cultural jewellery traditions
    • Techniques in goldsmithing and related crafts
    • Auction catalogues and records from major houses
    • Royal jewellery and historical adornment
    • Design histories of jewellery houses such as Cartier and Bulgari
    • Australian jewellery and the country’s gemstone heritage, including opals

Titles include Italian Jewels – Bulgari Style, Gems Made by Man, The Art of Fabergé and The Glitter and the Gold – Fashioning America’s Jewelry.

    Launch Event and Scholarship Initiative

An industry event on 24 October will mark the official opening of the library. Attendees will be invited to view the collection and take part in discussions about its relevance to the trade.

The event will also include a fundraiser to support a new scholarship programme. From 2026, the programme will provide students with access to a series of technical and design-focused classes led by jewellers and educators from across Australia.

    Access and Location

The Sarah Hue-Williams Library is located at The Centre, 303 Parramatta Road, Leichhardt NSW. It will be accessible to members and students of The Centre.
