Adelaide Jewellery Store Targeted in Attempted Robbery

A jewellery store in Adelaide faced an attempted robbery in the early hours of Thursday morning, where a group of three masked offenders failed to penetrate the store’s reinforced defences.

The incident occurred at a shop on North East Road, where the perpetrators attempted to breach a 400-kilogram, bulletproof glass door but were unsuccessful.

    Intruders Foiled by Security Measures

The incident unfolded at approximately 2:30am when the group resorted to crawling under the store’s gates. After failing to smash through the main entrance, they turned to a side window but were still unable to gain entry. The shop’s security measures, including reinforced glass and an alarm system, prevented the intruders from gaining access.

Store owner Brad Mucklow commented on the security measures, stating:

“They’re just smashing the place to pieces trying to get in… the investment in reinforced glass and security measures prevented them from entering.”

The shop’s alarm system alerted both the owner and the monitoring company. According to Mucklow:
“While I was looking at the cameras, my alarm company rang and said there’s multiple alarms going off. As soon as that happens, there’s problems… so I checked the cameras and could see the place had been vandalised.”

    Aftermath of the Incident

Although the attempted robbery resulted in no theft, the incident caused extensive property damage. The offenders fled the scene before police arrived, leaving behind a backpack, which was later found discarded in the garden of a nearby church.

The incident comes just three weeks after extensive renovations were completed at the store. Repairs to the windows and doors will now be necessary, coinciding with the holiday trading period.
